Introducing the UK’s first programme of cash transfers to relieve homelessness
Many of the ways in which we might relieve or prevent homelessness more effectively have not been tested here in the United Kingdom. The research base for much of what happens within the homelessness system is weak. More importantly, research and evaluation of how we might do things differently simply has not happened on a scale significant enough to have impact. This is why we are pleased to be taking part in a ground-breaking programme which will test out an intervention to support people impacted by or at risk of homelessness.
Greater Manchester sees bigger reductions in rough sleeping than England average – official figures
Data published by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing & Communities have verified the reduction documented by Greater Manchester local authority teams in November 2021. During that count, local authority teams found 89 people – the first time since 2013 that the number of people sleeping rough had fallen below 100 on a single-night survey.
A Bed Every Night: Our Impact
We are a founding funder of the flagship A Bed Every Night (ABEN) programme and have always played our part in Greater Manchester's frontline response. A Bed Every Night is built on the principle that no one should be excluded from support and forced to sleep on the streets, and we fund those who are legally deemed to have ‘No Recourse to Public Funds’ (NRPF).
