Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity to Play It Green

Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity has joined the Play It Green community in a bid to drive more funding to tackle homelessness whilst supporting the regions efforts to become net zero by 2038.

Play It Green are a Manchester based online subscription service set up by two local dads, Chris Thair and Richard Dickson. The company provide a host of regular support to help reduce the carbon footprint of people and businesses. Many local firms, including Manchester Central, Affirmative Finance, Ikonic, and One+All, are already members of the service, with subscribers expanding into nine countries globally.

Set up in 2021, the organisation has to date helped close to 100,000 people and over 300 business reduce their carbon footprint, planted 327,215 trees and passed on vital funds to 28 charities.

What is unique about the service is that all subscriptions also ensure new forests are planted and funds are given to local good causes, such as Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity. The partnership is perfectly timed considering the commitment the charity is making to its own net zero journey, with the building of a sustainability charter.

With the climate emergency becoming increasingly devastating, it is compulsory that social justice and climate justice goals are united. By creating a sustainability charter that aims to reduce the carbon footprint of organisations working across the city-region, Greater Manchester can look forward to a greener, more sustainable future. Play It Green will support Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity on this journey, achieving meaningful action for the charity and the organisations they support.

Frances Darlington-Pollock, CEO of Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity said,

‘Play It Green makes it so easy for organisations to understand what they can do to build a greener and more sustainable future. That sustainable future is a society and a planet for everyone, where we can all live and thrive wherever we call home. Homelessness has no place in that future, or this present, and that’s why we’re so excited by this new partnership.’

Co-Founder of Play It Green, Richard Dickson said,

‘Being Manchester born and bred I feel proud, humbled and excited to be working with the Greater Manchester Mayor’s charity. Their work supporting people experiencing homelessness is making a difference and it feels extra special doing something in my hometown… We advocate members choosing local good causes, this is a wonderful charity and as a Mancunian this is an especially proud moment for me.’
