Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity raises thousands at its second annual gala dinner

We raised thousands to help end the need for rough sleeping in Greater Manchester with our flagship, pioneering scheme, A Bed Every Night, joined by representatives from 50 businesses from across the city-region.

The business community of Greater Manchester have once again come together to show that homelessness and rough sleeping do not belong here.

Over three hundred guests descended upon New Century for an evening of fundraising with great entertainment, delicious food and inspiring conversations.

Some beautiful music soundtracked the welcome drinks provided by Atlas Bar and Double Dutch Tonics, greeting guests as they filed into beautiful New Century.

As guests took their seats, we enjoyed an insightful Q&A with Andy Burnham, hosted by the Coronation Street’s very own Julia Goulding. This was swiftly followed by our Patron and Mayor of Greater Manchester taking to the decks (and mic!) once more to spin some classic Manc tunes.

As the team at New Century served a three course Vietnamese menu from  Banh Vi, guests enjoyed the live art being created by local artist, Dean Douglas. This beautiful piece was amongst lots of enviable raffle and silent auction prizes which guests had the opportunity to get their hands on during the evening.

Once food had been enjoyed and some lucky winners announced, OJ Borg, BBC Radio 2’s resident late-night DJ, took to the stage, playing some party-starters that certainly got people dancing!

It was undeniably an evening to remember. And once again, Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity could not have done it without the support of the incredible business community that we have here in our city-region.

Thanks to each and every one of our guests, supporters and sponsors, nearly £15,000 was raised. That will support hundreds of nights in A Bed Every Night accommodation, providing a warm welcome, food a bed and full wrap-around support for someone otherwise facing a night on the streets.

I am once again so inspired to see our business community come together in support of Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity. Collaboration is fundamental to everything that we do here. No one person or organisation can solve homelessness or end the need for rough sleeping. But together, change is possible We are blown away by how organisations have come together to raise some all-important funds for people during their time of crisis and are dedicating all funds raised to the A Bed Every Night scheme.

We are lucky  to benefit from the passion and determination of Greater Manchester’s businesses in their efforts to make this city-region a better place for all. With the latest statistics on rough sleeping and homelessness painting a damning picture across the country, the support of Greater Manchester is as urgent and valuable as ever. Thank you to everyone involved.

Together, we can end homelessness.
