Show Me Home 2024

What does home mean to you?

In 2023, we used art to connect and engage children about the value of home, with school children creating pieces of art under the theme of ‘Show Me Home’. Many expressed ideas of love, safety, and family. For some, they also explored the absence of home and the experience of homelessness. The results were truly remarkable.

Building on the success of that campaign, we invite you to sign up to ‘Show Me Home 2024’. This time it’s bigger and better!

Grab this opportunity for your year 7 and 8’s.

They and some of your teachers will learn how to  use AI with Microsoft to create powerful imagery on what home means to them. With 82% of jobs requiring basic digital skills it’s never been more important for young people to learn about new technologies. This is an opportunity for them to learn about AI in a way that is both creative, fun and accessible to all. Schools that register will be provided with step-by-step instructions on how to take part in the challenge. This has been designed to be user friendly and to empower your students and stimulate their creativity. Microsoft will also run an online session where we will walk you through the details.

Participating schools from Greater Manchester will also have the chance to submit their best entries into a competition, judged by a panel including Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity, Shelter, Microsoft, Clear Channel.

Artists of the winning pieces will be invited design-thinking hackathon, hosted by Microsoft, focusing on developing new and engaging activities to challenge stereotypes of the experience of homelessness in October (more details TBC).

What’s more, a selection of the best entries will also have their art displayed around Greater Manchester on Clear Channel screens in the city-region, coinciding with World Homeless Day on 10th October.

Participating schools will also have the opportunity to nominate key staff to attend a fully funded online short course with Shelter. The course will help you spot housing crises in your student cohort and understand what you can do to support those students during that time.
